The Return of the Merfolk

In the year 996 an adventuring party containing Rodin and Tim the Enchanter accidently freed the Merfolk and Merrow from their prison. To give this some context, thousands of years ago the Sahuagin and Kuo-Toa had succeeded in slaughtering damn near every sentient race in the Seas, the Merfolk in an act of desperation made a deal with Blibaal, the Goddess of the Kuo-Toa. She entrapped them in a demiplane, but it had a link to the Abyss. With this link to the Abyss some of the Merfolk were twisted into ther Merrow and the Merrow enslaved the remaining Merfolk. Once the gate was opened all of the Merrow raced into Midgard’s seas. The Merfolk snuck their way out as well, and after giving a warning to the creatures of the surface they established their villages in secret, away from the watchful eyes of the Kuo-Toa, Sahuagin, Merrow, and creatures of the surface. After a hundred and twenty seven years the Merfolk had rebuilt that empire they had lost all those millions of years ago. The Merrow however became rare, as they had been attacking the ships of the surface and the cities of the Kuo-Toa and Sahuagin. The Kuo-Toa and Sahuagin became so focused on each other and the new Merrow threat that they ignored the Merfolk when they started to regain their foothold. Interestingly enough the idol of Blibaal which summoned the Mer from their prison may have returned many of the lost creatures, as Blibaal is an ally of Ghaunadaur she has the ability to bring back lost races. As a side note there is an interesting prophecy of the Gods of Far, Chaos and Monstrosities will raise the lost from their prisons and bring the dead from their ancient slumber… that which is not dead can eternal lie, and with great aeons, even death may die…
